Leaving Mormonism can be isolating. You can find yourself wondering if you're the crazy one for walking away.
And then you learn that Joseph Smith dictated the Book of Mormon from a "peep stone" in a hat.
And that Figure 7 in Facsimile 2 of the Book of Abraham isn't actually "God sitting upon his throne, revealing...the grand Key-words of the Priesthood", but is actually an Egyptian fertility god with a gloriously erect penis.
And things start to feel a little more light-hearted. Learning these tidbits is refreshing, and it helps you heal.
Cool and invigorating, "Eau de Peep Stone" celebrates the refreshing, light-hearted moments of leaving Mormonism. It's not all shunning and gaslighting. There are peep stones and erect fertility gods here, too!
SCENTS
Burning "Eau de Peep Stone" reminds me of sitting on the porch of my cousins' farm when I was a little girl. Sun beating down, a breeze rustling up the leaves, and a glass of ice cold cucumber water in my hand. Smelling strongly of cucumber, this is the perfect candle to burn when you want to sit back and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Ahhhhh...
• Top Notes: Cucumber Slices, Clover
• Middle Notes: Fresh Lilac, Honeysuckle, Green Leaves
• Base Notes: Moss, Thyme
CANDLE INSPIRATION
"Eau de Peep Stone" is a nod to a little detail of Mormon history that was systematically omitted from what I was taught at church in the '90s and 2000s.
Painting after painting showed Joseph Smith bent over the gold plates, translating in a way that, well, looked like translating. The idea that he dictated the Book of Mormon from a "peep stone" in his hat never once came up.
And we certainly never learned about Joseph Smith's escapades with that same "peep stone" before founding Mormonism. Like the one that landed him a fraud conviction in 1826.
Praise to the man!
Or, if you'd rather, praise to the candle! It comes with more giggles and less shame.
QUALITY + SUSTAINABILITY
All ExMo Candles are hand-poured in small batches, and each of our recipes is tweaked and tested before coming online. We take pride in the quality of our candles.
Our candles are also vegan-friendly, made and packaged sustainably, and pthalate-free. Our commitment to sustainability includes a partnership with One Tree Planted, where we donate the money to plant 100 trees for every 100 candles sold.
Finally, the removable labels on our jars make them easy to upcycle. Woohoo!
DISCREET PACKAGING
We know that you might be living with members of the church, or heck, that your mailman might be Mormon. For that reason, we've chosen not to brand our outer packaging in any way. No one will be able to tell from the outside of the box that you've ordered anything related to being an ex-Mormon. This includes the shipping label, which will simply say it's from Jen + Adri.

Recommended to me as one of the creator’s favorite candles, I purchased this not knowing what to think! I was happily surprised by the fresh, breezy, grassy, cucumbery scent. No treasure digging here, unless you count finding a four-leaf clover. Just a carefree, easy going, picnic with cucumber sandwiches in the meadow kind of experience.

I’m so glad you like this one, Julie! Thanks so much for leaving a review!

I actually love this candle so much I haven’t burned it much because I don’t want it to run out! I still open it up to smell it all the time (how can a candle smell like a meadow??? and yet it does) and I’ve added it to my bookshelf. I smile every day when I see it peeping into my zoom background. Now I only need my own peepstone to go with it.

That makes me smile so much, Millie! Thanks for leaving this review! (And hunting for my own peep stone down by the river is on my summer to-do list. I need one, too!)

I live in a desert so this candle scent takes me to a place where there is actual vegetation. I imagine it is what it smelled like for ‘ol Joe when he was in his little cabin peepin’ in the hat. Very high quality candle.

Hehe, I love that! I’m so glad you like it, Shannon! Here’s to giggling at peep stones!

I knew I had to get this candle when I saw that it was going out of stock. I love cucumbers and the fresh scent of this candle! Sometimes it gets a bit too strong, but that’s ok. One day I was burning it and my sister walked in and said, “Mmm, it smells like dandelions,” and now that’s what I think of too. And make no mistake, that’s a great thing. Too bad they’re gone now 🙁

Nothing makes scrying in my closet better than lighting this candle and getting astral projected beyond the veil. It’s perfect and magical.
